Edward Elgar cruising under Holt Bridge on the River Severn

River Severn Heritage Cruise - 4 nights

Explore the Heritage of the River Severn

This English holiday cruise will appeal to anybody wanting a different mid-week break or unusual mini-break with their partner and possibly some friends. It’s quite a cheap river cruise holiday, with plenty of relaxation, stunning views, interesting sights and delicious meals. The Edward Elgar Riverboat Hotel sails from the historic Gloucester docks up the River Severn to three ports of call each steeped in history. There’s a good commentary on the heritage of the river along the way. This all makes for a very good English heritage holiday.

Board on Sunday in Gloucester Docks

Board the Edward Elgar Riverboat Hotel in Gloucester Docks on Sunday at 6pm, unpack and enjoy dinner. We run a table quiz after dinner - a good opportunity to meet other passengers – before you retire to your cosy cabin.

‘We have been twice and the standard has always been First Class! Will definitely holiday with you again!’ Mr & Mrs Croft, Hampshire

Sail on Monday to Upton Upon Severn

On Monday morning we cruise to the picturesque town of Upton-upon-Severn, passing through two huge and historic locks on the way. After lunch you can take a short stroll to visit the ‘Pepperpot’ church tower Heritage Centre, the Tudor House Museum, or a longer walk alongside the river on the Severn Way. In the evening, we stage the Captain’s cocktail party before serving up a delicious dinner.

‘Expected it to be good – it was great! Thank you all.’  - Mrs F, Bedfordshire

Cruise to the Historic City of Worcester on Tuesday

On Tuesday the cruise continues through some beautiful countryside with views of the Malvern Hills all the way to our mooring in the shadow of the Cathedral at Worcester. In the afternoon you can join our guided tour of Worcester Cathedral, go to the civil war Commandery or walk into the extensive main shopping centre. Our Captain and crew will explain where to go.

‘We have enjoyed our first river cruise. The crew have been first class throughout the cruise. The sightseeing has been very good too. Hope to see you again in the near future’

Downstream to the Abbey at Tewkesbury

On Wednesday morning we head back south to Tewkesbury where you may enjoy a leisurely walk to the 12th Century Abbey or a longer walk around Tewkesbury Ham. In the evening, sit down for our final dinner together with a superb meal and some memorable live entertainment.

Return Thursday to Gloucester

On Thursday morning we cruise back to Gloucester. After breakfast, there is plenty of time to take in the views and enjoy a thrilling ride up through Gloucester Lock from the river to the main docks. You disembark around 11 am with great memories of one of England’s finest heritage holidays.
